The 22nd Annual Heartwood Reunion will take place on October 6th-8th at the Lazy Black Bear in Paoli, Indiana.  The Heartwood Reunion is a public event where people with a shared interest in sustainability and protecting the environment gather from all across the central and eastern United States for a weekend of music, workshops, food, and connection.
This year’s event will feature a keynote speech by Ross Gay, award-winning poet and founding board member of the Bloomington Community Orchard.  Following Gay’s Friday night address, there will music by the Jefferson Street Parade Band and Glitter Brains.  Saturday’s schedule includes Opening Circle in the morning, workshops and field trips throughout the day, and will close with the famous Heartwood Auction and No Talent Required Show.  The weekend concludes at lunch on Sunday after a closing circle and discussions.
Food for the weekend will be prepared by Carla Gresham, using as many local and organic ingredients as possible.  Teri Owens of Laughing Lady Bug Botanicals will provide children’s programming on Saturday, including DIY toothpaste and naturecrafting.
The Lazy Black Bear is an idyllic retreat at the end of dead end road surrounded by the Hoosier National Forest.Since 1990, Heartwood has been fighting to protect forests and nearby communities in the “central hardwood region” of the U.S. through public advocacy, community organizing, and litigation.
The Heartwood Reunion is co-sponsored by the Indiana Forest Alliance, Whole Sun Designs, Sierra Club Hoosier Chapter, Shagbark, Buckeye Forest Defenders, Concept Zero, Shawnee Forest Sentinels, and Southern Illinoisans Against Fracturing Our Environment.
Those planning to attend are encouraged to pre-register by visiting our event page.  People interested in work-exchange to help offset registration costs can email info@heartwood.org.
