Devastating Flooding in West Virgina and the call for help: 

Recently, the State of West Virginia received some nine inches of rain in the space of a few hours–the type of extreme weather event that is becoming more common with global climate change. Areas of the state hardest hit by logging and mountaintop removal are among those hardest hit by the flooding, with over two dozen lives lost and hundreds of homes destroyed. Heartwood recognizes that the loss of forest habitat and meandering mountain streams is directly affecting the lives of thousands, and we urge our members to support these emergency relief efforts in the Mountain State.

Drop-off locations in Huntington, 

Barboursville for flood-relief supplies

Huntington, WV- The City of Huntington and the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition (OVEC) have established drop off locations for supplies that will be distributed to flood victims in West Virginia.

These items will be collected through Thursday, June 30. OVEC will be working with other groups across the state in order to coordinate how best the items will be distributed after pick-up.

OVEC is seeking volunteers who can offer to help load supplies on Thursday and provide transportation. For more infromation, or to offer assisstance, email Natalie@ohvec.org

Items in Need: Non-perishable food items, bottled water, new or slightly worn men’s, women’s, children’s and infant clothing, (including underwear and socks), diapers, washcloths and towels, hand sanitizer, baby wipes, first aid kits, garbage bags, cleaning supplies, rubber gloves, laundry detergent, flashlights, batteries, blankets, pillows, feminine products.
